Message from Dr. Lisa Brady, Superintendent

Lisa Bradley, SuperintendentDear Nanuet Parents and Community,

Welcome to our newly improved Nanuet Union Free School District website!

In keeping with our focus on communication and transparency, we have launched a new website using our existing Parent Square software. The new website integrates seamlessly with Parent Square, our primary notification system so that parents and community members can find the information they need quickly and in one place. There is nothing that parents and community members need to do except to log on to our newly refreshed site.

We are also excited to announce that the Board of Education adopted the new Nanuet School District Mission Statement and Strategic Priorities at its June 16th meeting. The mission statement (below) reflects over a year’s worth of work with many stakeholder groups who “weighed in” on how best to acknowledge the challenges ahead while capturing the excitement of the evolving future for our children.

The Nanuet School District is committed to ensuring every student is known, valued, and supported in a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment where they develop the skills, character, mindset, and resilience to think critically, collaborate, grow, and contribute meaningfully in an evolving world.

Additionally, the Board of Education adopted five strategic priorities which provide the framework for a new five year strategic plan to guide purposeful planning and direction for our schools:

  • Inclusive and Supportive Environment
  • Academic Preparedness
  • Engaged and Meaningful Learning
  • Future-Ready Skills and Mindsets
  • Character, Citizenship and Well-Being

As the District continues to explore and understand the many details and aspects of the New York State Department of Education’s Portrait of a Graduate, we find ourselves excited about the possibilities this new approach to graduation measures presents for our students and teachers. Moving away from the shackles of traditional standardized testing is the right direction in order to prepare students for the complexities of an ever-changing world. This shift however, is seismic and will require significant amounts of professional learning for teachers, students and parents in the months and years ahead. This monumental change in approach is happening “sooner rather than later” and is set to have some requirements in effect for the 2027 graduating cohort of students. You can find implementation information on the New York State Department of Education website Frequently Asked Questions about the new graduation measures.

We hope that you find the new website easier to navigate and that information is readily accessible. Information about our journey with the Portrait of a Graduate will be forthcoming over the school year.

Sincerely,

Lisa Brady, Ed.D.

Superintendent
